Das Video zeigt das Leben von Judith in Navi Mumbai/Indien, einer deutschen Studentin, die dort 2 Monate ein Praktikum bei einer Regionalzeitung durchgeführt hat. Judith zeigt uns ihre Unterkunft in einem indischen Studentenwohnheim, sie zeigt uns, wo man essen kann, wie man den öffentlichen Nahverkehr in Mumbai benutzt, wo man einkaufen kann etc. Wir lernen auch Sudipta kennen, die örtliche Betreuerin von World Unite!

All our participants in Zanzibar are welcome to take part in music lessons at the Zanzibar Music Academy (DCMA). The price for an individual lesson is 15 USD, or 10 USD per person for 2 or more participants. There are discounts for monthly subscriptions. You can learn the following instruments: Oud, Ganun, Violin, Accordion, Cello, local drums (Ngoma), Arabic percussion, Piano, Keyboard, Guitar, Zumari (a woodwind instrument similar to what snakecharmers use) and singing (voice). Group lessons exist for Kidumbak ensemble, Taarab orchestra and Ngoma Dancing.

Thanks to instructor Prama Bardwaj, Zumba, a latin-rhythm based exercise class, has arrived in Zanzibar! Group classes are now available every Tuesday afternoon. Price for one lesson is 5’000 TSH, all fees will go directly go to the DCMA scholarships’ fund.

Our participants who returned home from their stay abroad in the months of August to October 2011 were asked to rate our local coordinators in terms of helpfulness, willingness to assist, accessibility and understanding for their concerns on a scale from 0 to 100, with 0 being the worst and 100 being the best possible rating.

18 participants were rating our volunteer coordinator Freddy in Zanzibar and he achieved a stunning average of 95! Out of the 18 participants, 11 were giving him the full score of 100! Congratulations Freddy for your good work.

11 participants were rating our volunteer coordinator Adelina in Moshi. She reached an also fantastic average of 92.

Fenna in Morocco was rated by 6 participants and achieved an average of 97!

The picture shows Adelina and Freddy at our office in Zanzibar. Both were paid a bonus for achieving outstanding participant satisfaction. Office manager Kambona of Zenith Tours hands over a cheque to Freddy. 

All participants who completed the survey would recommend World Unite! to their friends. More than half of our participants already book with World Unite! because of the personal recommendation of a former participant.

Fabian „Fab“ Dittrich has just started his trip around the world to collect donations for charitable projects. He uses his skills in web 2.0 marketing to reach the global internet community. His bet against the internet users is that for every donation of 10 € via betterplace.org, he will find one person to sing with him. For instance, if 1000 € are being donated for a Maasai school in Tanzania, Fab has to find 100 people to perform a song with him. If he does not manage to find the required number of people, a penalty awaits him that the internet community can decide. All of this can be seen in video webisodes on http://www.fabandvivien.com.  

We assisted Fab to find his first project at the door of Africa, Tangier, in Northern Morocco. It is with CHABAKA, an NGO helping Sub-Saharan refugees. All donations that Fab can rise will help to assist Sub-Saharan refugees to travel to Rabat to get documents that give them official status of being a United Nations refugees and thus legalising their stay in Morocco. Fab has just published his first call for donations, which is a nice video where our volunteers Monika and Hannah explain about the organization.

On his trip through the world, we will support Fab in Morocco, Tanzania, Zanzibar, India and Mexico. Please assist Fab in making his trip successful by donating here!

The area provides spectacular mountain views of the mighty snow-covered Dhauladhars and is close to the famous temple of Indru Nag. It is the perfect place for spiritual discoveries and exciting outdoor adventures.

Visits of the area include the Dalai Lama’s village with its bustling bazaar, the Main Temple of Tsuglag Khang, The Nampyalma Stupa, erected as a memorial to those Tibetans who lost their lives fighting for a free Tibet, and Bhagsunag Fall with its old temple.

Action-packed activities in the mountains include day treks, multi-day high altitude treks to Tirund and the Indrahaar Pass, paragliding, rock climbing, rappelling, river crossing, mountain biking etc.

The comfortable tented camp is perfect for groups, individuals and corporate clients.

Our first video clip is now online. It is about the Social Reality Tour in Moshi. Social Reality Tour was initiated by World Unite! to support families and individuals living with HIV/AIDS and to give visitors insights into the social reality of Tanzania. All revenues directly go to the supported individuals.

The 8 minutes video accompanies social worker and HIV counselor Fundasia Kishe of KIWAKKUKI into Njoro Ward, a slum area of Moshi/Kilimanjaro, where she visits 3 patients affected by HIV, accompanied by 3 visitors from Germany. You, as a tourist in Tanzania, can take part in the Social Reality Tour - just book through its website. Or, if you have a little more time, come to Moshi/Kilimanjaro as a volunteer and help us improve the Social Reality Tour, or volunteer with the NGO KIWAKKUKI or any other of our various projects!

On Saturday, 22nd of October, our volunteer Olaf Butterbrod will carry out the first „Moshi Friendship Cup 2011″, a football (soccer) tournament between 12 teams of centres for underpriviliged children and youth including Kili Orphanage, Tuleeni, Kiwodea, Salama Centre, Mkombozi and others. There will be the two age groups of 4-8 years and 8-14 years. At around 3 p.m. there will a friendship match for the 15-18 years old between a mixed selection of Moshi youth centres and the Amani Orphanage.

Additionally, some of our volunteers will offer „Girls’ entertainment“ which includes make-up (Annika, Amelie, Elli), juggling (Rebekka and Christina), rope jumping (Marei and Lisa) and cheerleading (Steffi and Tabea). The children of KYSTC will further perform a 90 minutes show program including Hip Hop, traditional dance, drumming etc.

The idea of this event is to encourage the children and youth to discover and develop talents, and to feel confident to perform their skills in front of other people. The location is in Moshi Pasua near Kili Orphanage/Springlands Hotel. Visitors are advised to go to Springlands Hotel and ask for the exact location. The program will be from 11 am to around 4 pm.

From 20th to 27th of September, there will be a charity climb on Mt. Kilimanjaro with Madaraka Nyerere (the son of Julius Nyerere, founder of the State of Tanzania), Jaffar Idd Amin Dadah (son of the founder of the State of Uganda), and our former volunteer Andrea Wobmann from Switzerland. The idea of the charity climb is to raise funds for the development of sustainable tourism at Lake Victoria.

Andrea had been at Lake Victoria for 6 months, volunteering with Madaraka in the development of sustainble pro-poor tourism. Tourism is a major economic factor in East Africa and plays a very important role in the development of poor and underdeveloped regions. According to WWF estimates, 7 tourists give employment to one local, who can through his income feed 15 people.

Madaraka Nyerere is chairman of the „Lake Victoria Cultural Tourism Association“. You can pay a donation which will support Andrea’s and Madaraka’s projects at Lake Victoria, which include cultural tours, a tourist information centre and historical museum in Mwanza, the tourism class at St. Augustine University, a microfinance project for women, „Chief Edward Wanzagi Girls school“ in Butiama, and a workshop for handicapped people who make souvenirs (Bukoba Disabled Assistance Project).

In New Delhi:
Volunteering and internships:
* As nutritionist, speech therapist, in special education for autistic and mental children, trainer of counselors, and nurse with Salaam Baalak Trust 
* Engineering internship with India’s larges company for solar energy
* „Literacy India“ women empowerment in Gurgaoen: Around 300 women in different centres are making paper products, cloths, boxes and decoration objects. These are women from poor and conservative rural villages who traditionally don’t do any money-generating work. Before getting involved with the empowerment program, they were not allowed to have an income and often were often not even allowed to talk within their own house. Many were facing domestic violence. Through Literacy India they could change their situation. Volunteers can work with the women on handcraft production, they can write reports and do case studies, and work in marketing and distribution of the women’s products.
* Literacy India school in Gurgaon with 700 students, teaching science and doing special, mostly science-related projects with students.
* Tourism marketing for Nizamuddin Basti cultural tourism
* Teaching computers, English, cooking/baking/catering, make-up (beautician) to poor population in Nizamuddin Basti
World Learner:
* Tour with former street children! (Half-day activity). Walk into the street life of Delhi. Nobody knows Delhi’s streets better than the young people who will be your guides! The streets were their only home until Salaam Baalak trust offered them a chance for a new life. Now fully trained as guides, these spirited youngsters will share their personal stories of freedom and survival and take you on an insider’s walk of the colourful street-life in and around New Delhi Railway Station and Paharganj. The walk also gives you a feel for life here in yester-year and you will see the built heritage of the area. It also shows you some of the opportunities the Trust provides for street children.
* Discover the World of Nizamuddin Basti (half-day activitiy), a fascinating muslim quarter in Delhi with many mosques, sufi shrines, monuments, customs, culture, food and markets. The tour is an empowerment project for the local community to be proud about their part of the city.

In Jaipur (Rajasthan):
Volunteering and internships:
* Jaipur Jewelry Artisans Development Project: Jaipur is a centre of the Indian jewelery industry with more than 13,000 artisans working with metal, stone, gold, lac and wood. You can volunteer strengthening the Jaipur Jewelry value chain: jewelry product design for foreign markets, jewelry marketing and distribution.
* Orphanage centre; teaching and doing activities with underprivileged children (orphans, begging street children, children which have been rescued from child labour) in 11 slum areas, such as English, dance, handcrafts.
* HIV/AIDS Campaining and testing for sex workers and long-distance truck drivers
World Learner:
* In Chittorgarh, Rajasthan: Learn to paint and build „Kawads“. A kawad is a popular folk art story telling decive. It is constructed like a wooden temple, comprising a series of wooden panels with paintings that are unfolded to tell stories from Hindu mythology and religious tradition. The narration of the story is usually done by Kawadia Bhats, the traditional singers of the kawad.

In Jodphur (Rajasthan) and Setrawa (village in the Thar desert):
* With Sambhali Trust: Teaching handcraft skills to women and girls e.g. sewing, embroidery, block-printing etc., product development, marketing, distribution of handcraft products
* Playing theatre and practicing other performing arts with women. It will be our next year’s project to improve the performing arts skills of a Sambhali Trust women’s group. The goal is to have them perform at historical monuments in Jodphur for tourists groups to grow their confidence and as an income-generating activity. We are looking for volunteers who can teach acting, dance, music etc. to the women. They have already had some exposure to performing arts through foreign volunteers
* Teaching English and doing activities at kindergarten and school in Setrawa village in the Thar desert

In Mumbai:
Volunteering and internships:
* Dr. Yewale’s children hospital. Volunteering and electives at private hospital specialised in pediatrics.
* Participation in eye screening with the blindness prevention program of the National Association for the blind of India. This is for professional volunteers as well as medical students. The program is screening more than 30,000 individuals per year to detect eye problems at an early stage. Further action taken includes provision of spectacles, cataract and keratoplasty surgery.
* Teaching physiotherapy and massage to blind people
* Recording of audio books for blind. This is for native English speakers who can read books as well as for sound technicians/sound designers. Preparing contents of educational books for braille books. The National Association for the blind of India has modern computerised media labs for the production of audio and braille media for the blind.

* Learning Bollywood dance at prestigious Bollywood dance academy
